Our institution started in the year 1929 as a Industrial School at Vellayil, Kozhikode. It was developed in to a polytechnic in 1946. Polytechnic offered 5 diploma standard courses and 5 certified courses. In 1946 the institution was named as KERALA POLYTECHNIC and moved its location from Vellayil to the present building at Westhill in the year 1952-53. Westhill is at the north side of the city of Calicut.
The name of the institution then changed as KERALA GOVERNMENT POLYTECHNIC and now it is known as KERALA GOVERNMENT POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE (2002-2003).
With the basic engineering courses, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, two more disciplines was added in 1984 the Tool and Die Engineering and Computer Technology.
This Institute can proudly document that some of the best technocrats and professionals who are creating their unique imprints in the field of technology are the products of Kerala Government Polytechnic College.
